The modem world has so many distractions compared to only a few years ago. The explosion in modern technology has allowed us to stay in communication with people without the need for face to face meetings. The process of ordering food, clothing and other essentials has been revolutionised by the internet and online shopping.
All of these services have made our lives easier in one way or another, however, our increasing reliance on technology maybe causing harm to our health.
The fact that we no longer have to walk to see a friend or go to the local store for groceries means that we are all getting less exercise.
Exercise is an important part of maintaining good general health. If the body is allowed to become sedentary all kinds of medical conditions can start to manifest themselves. One particularly dangerous illnesses that can develop as a result of lack of exercise is hypertension.
Hypertension occurs when a person continually tests positive for high blood pressure. If the pressure levels of the blood are not normalised several life threatening conditions may develop.
Most people will know of somebody who has suffered a stroke or heart attack. These were most likely caused by persistent hypertension.
Technology has made our lives better in so many ways but we do need to strike a balance between relying on it and looking after our health.
